Solar Water Heaters
Solar water heating systems use heat from the sun to work alongside your conventional water heater. Solar water heating can provide you with about a third of your hot water needs. The average domestic system reduces carbon dioxide by around 325kg per year when installed in a gas heated property. Higher savings can be achieved in oil or electrically heated homes. Find out more about solar water heaters.
Solar PV
Solar PV (photovoltaic) uses energy from the sun to create electricity to run appliances and lighting. PV requires only daylight, not direct sunlight to generate electricity and so can still generate some power on a cloudy day. Find out more about solar photovoltaic.
Rainwater Harvesting
Rainwater recycling involves catching and containing rain from roof areas and treating it for domestic or commercial use. The average home can produce as much as 100,000 liters per year which may be put to a multitude of uses in the grounds and property. Using a simple water but can save large amounts of money on metered water charges - especially if you currently use a mains water hosepipe for lawns etc. Greater use of rainwater can be made if it is collected via a filter system, stored in an underground or over-ground tank and pumped to a separate water storage tank for use in toilet-flushing and for washing machines. For most households, this could reduce water consumption by 30 - 50%. Find out more about rainwater harvesting.
Air Source and Ground Source Heat Pumps
Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the outside to heat buildings. There are two types of air-source heating systems. Air-to-air systems provide warm air, which is circulated to heat the building.
The other type, air-to-water, heat water to provide heating to a building through radiators or an underfloor system Find out more about air source & ground source heat pumps.
Biomass Boilers
Biomass is produced from organic materials, either directly from plants or indirectly from industrial, commercial, domestic or agricultural products. It is often called 'bioenergy' or 'biofuels'. It doesn't include fossil fuels, which have taken millions of years to be created. Find out more about biomass boilets.
Wind Turbines
Wind turbines use the wind's lift forces to rotate aerodynamic blades that turn a rotor which creates electricity. In the UK we have 40% of Europe's total wind energy. But it's still largely untapped and only 0.5% of our electricity requirements are currently generated by wind power. Find out more about wind turbines.
Energy Catcher
ENERGYCATCHER© is simple to install, uses no electricity, has no running costs, requires no maintenance and reduces carbon emmissions by 5%!
ENERGYCATCHER© Is a revolutionary new system that will extract virtually all of the heat from gas boiler fumes whenever the boiler is operating, with a net result of a 5% extra saving on gas and a reduction in bills. Fuel bills are reduced with all year round savings of a minimum 5% over and above that of the best SEDBUK Band A condensing boilers. The savings can be up to 90% in domestic hot water mode if the storage tank is above 38°C. Find out more about energy catcher.
Underfloor Heating
An Energy Efficiency Best Practice in Housing guide lists the following benefits of underfloor heating systems:
- Near to ideal comfort conditions are attained with the feet at a slightly warmer temperature than the head.
- Large spaces, which are difficult to heat evenly from perimeter heat emitters, can be uniformly heated.
- They are unobtrusive - they do not take up any space within the occupied area.
- The low flow temperatures used in underfloor heating systems make them ideal for use with condensing boilers. The low return temperatures will slightly raise the efficiency of all boilers, and especially of condensing boilers.
- Underfloor heating can help reduce bills by around 5 per cent.
